2 million Russian tourists won't go to Turkey. This assessment from the president of the Russian Tourism Industry Association Ilya Umansky is given by the Turkish tourism media, citing Russian sources. The reason is the increase in prices for tours this summer by almost half. As a result, the tourist flow will remain at the level of last year and will not receive an “additional” two million.
“Tourist flow from Russia to Turkey due to a 47 percent increase in prices for summer tours in 2023 will remain at the level of last year and may reach about 5 million people, despite previous forecasts of its increase to 7 million,” Turkish media quote. At the same time, they emphasize that it was the increase in prices for tours that caused the restriction on the number of tourists visiting Turkey.
“Last year, 5.2 million Russian citizens left for Turkey. We expected 7 million this year. However, unfortunately, due to changes in prices for holidays in Turkey and the exchange rate of our national currency, these forecasts have not come true yet,” the Russian expert also said. He also said that this increase in price – 47% “added” from both of these factors – prices in Turkey rose by 30%, the rest was achieved due to the appreciation of the currency. In figures, the average bill for tours to Turkey last year was about 170 thousand rubles, and this year it is 250 thousand rubles.
