A disaster has occurred in Thailand: the sea is flooded with oil, a situation has been announced at a popular resort

A disaster has occurred in Thailand: due to a crude oil leak of 60,000 liters, the sea is flooded with petroleum products. Everything happened in the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, that is, the province of Chonburi and the resort of Pattaya, popular among our tourists, may be under attack. However, local officials assure that the marine ecology along the coast of Chonburi remains unharmed, at least for now… This was stated by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of Thailand.

Two incidents may be to blame for the disaster, officials said. To begin with, Thai Oil Company reported an oil leak from one of its tankers in the Gulf of Thailand. The leak, which reportedly lasted five minutes, resulted in a spill of 60,000 liters into the sea. At the time of the incident, the tanker was carrying 273,000 metric tons of crude oil. All this happened off the coast of Sri Racha in Chonburi, where resorts and islands are also located.

As stated by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, department teams examined coral reefs on five islands in the province, including popular ones from tourists. The department is currently closely monitoring 404,064 square meters of coral reefs and says they are all safe from the oil spill. “The cleanup operation is nearing completion so the coral reefs can avoid any impact,” they added. It was also stated that the department will continue to monitor the situation and in case of any problems, including complaints from tourists, it is ready to sue those responsible if any consequences of the oil spill appear.
