The second alarm signal from Turkey sounded for Russian tourists. The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Antalya urged Russians not to leave hotels and not to go on independent excursions due to the high fire risk.
“In connection with the remaining fires in some hard-to-reach mountainous places, we urge our citizens to be extremely careful, follow the situation and the news, during natural disasters, if possible, do not leave the territory of hotels and refrain from individual walks in mountainous and forest areas,” TASS cites the recommendations of the diplomatic department. As Russian representatives added, the Consulate General is closely monitoring the situation, is in contact with local authorities and tour operators.
“In the event of an emergency, we recommend that you strictly follow the instructions of the local authorities and the hotel administration, be sure to have the contacts of the tour operator, insurance service, Russian embassy or consulate with you for emergency communication and informing about emergency circumstances,” the diplomats added. They clarified that appeals from Russians who are temporarily or permanently in the consular district are isolated.
In turn, the Turkish authorities assured that forest fires do not threaten hotels and mass tourism facilities in the republic. “Under the influence of extreme heat and wind, in many counties of the Turkish Riviera, fires of forests, fields and shrubs of various sizes are recorded. Along the perimeter of the most massive recreational areas, the authorities are strengthening fire safety measures. Local authorities, with the involvement of the necessary funds and personnel, take appropriate measures to extinguish the fire. Up to 1.5 thousand people, special equipment and aviation are involved in these works. At the moment, according to the assurances of the authorities, the fire does not threaten the places where hotels and mass tourism facilities are located,” they quote.
However, according to them, as of Tuesday, July 25, the most difficult situation was in the Kemer region. Recall that at about 21.00 a fire broke out in the forest on the side of the Kemer-Antalya highway in the Degirmendere region. The drought and strong wind caused the flames to spread in an instant. Reinforced fire brigades from Antalya and Kumluca were sent to extinguish the fire. Nearby communities threatened by fire were also evacuated as a precautionary measure. At the same time, according to the Turkish press, six people who inhaled smoke were hospitalized. 10 residential buildings and a local hospital were also evacuated. In a separate issue, Deputy Interior Minister Münir Karaloglu said that the fire does not threaten tourist sites. Read more here.
