Spain's tourism statistics have been studied and commented quite jealously in Turkey. The country, once popular with Russian tourists, does not seem to need additional tourist flow from Russia: although the number of tourists this summer has decreased, they have brought more income to the country. Moreover, as calculated in Turkey, the country has learned to squeeze out of a tourist, on average, twice as much money as in Turkish resorts.
The statistics themselves are as follows – in the first half of 2023, the number of tourists in Spain increased by 24%, and the level of income from tourism increased by 28%. In figures, the number of tourists was 37.5 million, and the income was 46 billion euros. At the same time, Spain's goal for 2023 was announced at 85 million visitors and 100 billion euros in revenue. Despite the fact that the most crowded months of tourists have not yet been calculated, the country may come closer to this result. At the same time, in the “pre-Covid” 2019, when the country also received Russians, the result for the year amounted to 83 million tourists and 88 billion euros of income.
“These numbers are a sign that international tourism has rebounded strongly from the health crisis,” Spanish officials add. At the same time, the main tourists to the country are supplied by Europe – the British are in the lead, of which there are about 8 million; followed by the French and the Germans, about 5 million each. Russians have not been counted in the country, but it is clear that there are very few of them compared to previous years.
But let's add about Turkey – the local tourism media jealously calculated that the income of “Turkey's rival in tourism” is only in June grew by 17.5% compared to the previous year and reached 10.6 billion euros. This is almost 10% higher than in 2019. Moreover, the daily expenses of tourists increased by almost 8%, to 188 euros. “At the same time, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that the daily expenses of tourists in Turkey amount to 99.9 dollars (91.45 euros). Thus, Spain receives twice as much from each tourist as Turkey,” the Turks added.
