a worthy replacement for Russian vacationers in terms of costs. We are talking about spending on purchases during the holidays. Americans turned out to be even bigger spenders than our compatriots.
“Only in September, the cost of duty-free purchases made by American travelers in Greece was 70% higher than in the same month of pre-Covid 2019. In the first nine months of the year, Americans are estimated to have accounted for 35% of duty-free purchases across Greece, and their average spending this year was 1,360 euros (86,000 rubles) per person. However, for elite travelers, the average spending on purchases in Greece has risen to 14,000 euros (890 thousand rubles) in the first nine months,” said Greek publication Ekathimerini.
“We turned to the United States and Canada in 2020 , before the pandemic, and this year the fruits of the effort have been visible – about 600,000 Americans have visited Greece so far, and direct flights continue. We are working hard to open up to the Latin American market, a great market and opportunities for Greece,” said Dimitris Fragakis, Secretary General of the Hellenic National Tourism Organization (GNTO), during the Philoxenia 2022 tourism exhibition last weekend in Thessaloniki.
