Mediterranean resorts attacked by black flies that saw through the skin: tourists massively end up in hospitals for at least a month

Tourists traveling to the resorts of Spain, which are so fond of Russian vacationers, have been warned of a very serious health threat (although Spain is not yet accessible to most Russians). Covid this time has nothing to do with the matter: tourists were frightened by the invasion of the resorts of the kingdom of black flies, which do not bite, but saw the skin. The danger of a “bite” of such flies is much higher than from other insects – there are cases of hospitalization of tourists for several months.

Dangerous insects have already been found in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia – that is, in those provinces that are massively visited by tourists. As biologists say, the numbers of these terrible flies are constantly growing and will soon be “very close to becoming a serious public health problem in Spain.”

The fact is that their bites have serious consequences. The National Association of Environmental Companies is warning all tourists of the danger. Its CEO, Jorge Galván, said: “The virulence of the black fly bite is much higher than that of other insects. The main problem is that it does not sting, but bites, making an incision in the skin, as if filing it, which forms a significant wound. All this can lead to very disturbing infections and allergic reactions, which in some cases require prolonged hospitalization.”

Furthermore, the expert added, the fly can transmit serious diseases such as onchocerciasis, which can cause blindness. And this is a serious threat: according to the World Health Organization, approximately 270,000 people around the world have become blind from this disease.

“Their saliva is what usually causes severe allergy symptoms and severe pain in the area of the bite. As a result, in any case, after a bite, a scar of several centimeters remains, which usually even bleeds, accompanied by severe edema, which can last up to a month, ”said the Spanish biologist. He advised tourists, if this happens to them, in no case to comb the wound – this is fraught with infection – and immediately seek medical help.
