The Laos authorities have revised their decision and will reopen the airspace for Russian carriers flying to Thailand, in particular for “ Aeroflot. The corresponding decision came into force on March 10. This is reported by Simpleflying.
The background of the issue is as follows: in December 2022, the Lao authorities decided to close access to Russian airlines. The reasons for this have never been explained. “Agreements on the flight of Aeroflot aircraft over the territory of Laos were reached before the opening of a program of flights from the regions of the country to points in Asia. Unfortunately, despite the agreements reached earlier, at present, the aviation authorities of Laos do not confirm the carrier's application for a flight over its territory, ”Aeroflot said at the time. As a result, the route to Thailand for tourists was extended by a couple of hours due to the increased length of the route, as the liners had to make a detour through Myanmar. This mainly affected Siberian flights from Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk, as well as from Vladivostok. Read similarities at this link.
As a result, on March 10, this ban was lifted and Russian airliners can again fly over the territory of Laos. Which, in turn, will reduce the time of delivery by tourists to Thailand.
By the way, the publication also reports that in February 2023, Russian airlines increased passenger traffic by 0.7% compared to the previous year – in general, it amounted to 6.52 million passengers. This was the first time that the number of passengers served, including tourists, increased in the last 12 months.
