A Russian tourist drowned in the Bay of Monkeys at a popular resort

A Russian tourist drowned in the Bay of Monkeys near Phi Phi Don Island in Krabi Province, Thailand. According to the Thai edition of The Thaiger, the tragic incident occurred on an excursion on which a 55-year-old Russian went. At the same time, in a series of “cases on the water” with tourists, his case turned out to be the third of the fatal ones.

According to the experts of the publication, the Russian arrived in Krabi from Phuket with a guide over the weekend and joined the snorkeling classes in Monkey Bay (Bay of Monkeys) on the island of Phi Phi Don. As a result, the body of a tourist was found in the sea, presumably, the tourist drowned. As the publication adds, an autopsy to determine the cause of death has already been carried out, the Russian embassy has been notified. However, the name of the tourist and the exact cause of his death were not disclosed by the official Krabi authorities.

The publication also notes that in recent weeks, two more foreign tourists drowned in Thailand on the most popular beaches. So, on March 6, a 58-year-old tourist from Germany drowned on Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. As the local police said, the tourist went to swim with his girlfriend, subsequently “the girl got out of the water and could not find her boyfriend on the beach.” As a result, the body of the tourist was found by the driver of the jet ski. Attempts to revive him were futile.

On the last day of February, a Taiwanese tourist died – very similar to our compatriot – he also drowned while snorkeling off another island of Krabi. Yue Li, 36, snorkeled off Koh Hong Island, looking at the coral reefs. But at some point, “rescuers noticed that Yue had been lying face down in the water for too long” and hurried to deliver the unconscious tourist to the shore. As a result, it was also not possible to save the tourist – in his case, it is known for sure that he choked on water and spent too long without oxygen.

The previous Russian tourist was the victim of an accident on the water in November. A Russian man drowned while swimming at Karon Beach on the west coast of Phuket.
