The demoralization of the German tourist has begun: optimism has been replaced by pessimism

July brought demoralization to the German tourists. Known for their frugality, German travelers are beginning to realize that the usual trips 2-3 times a year to cheap resorts in Spain, Egypt, Greece and Turkey will no longer be – as everything becomes more expensive right before our eyes. As a result, the demand for tours begins to fall just as clearly, and German tourism begins to fall into pessimism.

This is also shown by the study of the sales climate index prepared by Dr. Fried & partner. Although sales in Germany are still good at the moment, the outlook for the future is negative, the researchers said. The latest news – and especially the anticipation of a cold winter without gas – is demoralizing for tourists. As a result, German travel agencies are no longer as optimistic about the future as they were a few weeks ago.

In numbers, this translates into the proportion of travel experts who positively noted the assumption “the demand for travel will increase in the next 6 months”, decreased by almost half in a month. In June, this point of view was shared by 75% of respondents, now this share has fallen to 37%. The share of travel agencies that said “the current situation is good” fell from 65% to 55%. At the same time, the share of those who said that “the current situation is satisfactory” was 40%. Extreme pessimists, confident that everything is “really bad”, while they are only 8% in the minority.
