Tests on the use of artificial intelligence in the tourism sector were announced by the largest tour operator, which implements ChatGPT to sell tours to tourists. We are talking about TUI UK, which is trying to increase the number of online bookings using the MyTui application, and announcing that “the future is already here”, is testing a chatbot with artificial intelligence.
“ChatGPT will have a significant impact on creation and sale of package tours. We will try this out in the UK because the online booking habit is thriving here,” said Sebastian Ebel, CEO of the TUI Group.
He noted that 80% of the tour operator's customers use the application and their number is growing. “The number of bookings made through MyTui in the UK is growing by an average of 4% to 9% every year. The new development makes it possible to increase this to 50%,” he said.
He also added that the increase in the number of bookings expected from ChatGPT will be online and will not affect retail sales through travel agencies. “For the first time, AI will match tour offers and destination information so that tours can be booked,” TUI added.
According to them, ChatGPT is currently available for 50% UK users, but it will be 100% available in the coming weeks. Starting next year, it will be available in other markets as well.
“ChatGPT will help travelers in two phases. At the first stage, it will be assistance in choosing destinations, adapted to the preferences of the tourist, and at the second stage, booking a trip to the chosen destination,” the experts added. According to them, ChatGPT is currently used by more than 10,000 TUI clients.
