“Reconsider your plans” called on the US State Department of tourists who want to visit China. They are intimidated by the “arbitrary practice of local laws” and the “risks of arbitrary arrest.”
According to the American press, a statement released by the State Department indicates that the government of the People's Republic of China “arbitrarily applies local laws.” Among other things, the law prohibits the exit of “citizens of the United States and other countries without a fair and transparent process.”
“U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in the People's Republic of China may be detained without access to US consular services. They may even be denied access to information about alleged crimes. Also, US citizens in the People's Republic of China can be interrogated and detained without due process and transparency in accordance with the law,” the tourists were scared.
They are also assured that in some cases tourists may be subject to travel restrictions. “U.S. citizens may find out that they cannot leave China by trying to leave the country, and there can be no legal way to challenge this,” they assured. At the same time, the ban on leaving China can apply not only to travelers, but also to their relatives (including minor children).
Those tourists who risk going to China, despite warnings, are advised by the State Department to always wear bring your passport with you, do not take photos of the police without permission, avoid “large gatherings or protests”, and if they are arrested, try to ask the police to immediately report it to the US Embassy in Beijing.
