Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization, called for the return of anti-COVID measures. So far, we are not talking about lockdowns and closing borders, but about a general mask regime and mass testing. Tourism, out of habit, has already tightened up: the signal is alarming, and everyone has already experienced how quickly the WHO moves on to other recommendations dangerous for tourism.
“The world needs to return to tried and tested ways to combat COVID-19 due to the increase in the incidence of new strains of coronavirus,” said the head of WHO. Among the measures tested, he called the return to the mass mask mode, and also recommended that the authorities return to the practice of mass testing for COVID-19.
Mr. Ghebreyesus scared tourists with an alarm signal in the form of an increasing number of hospitalizations and called on governments of countries “apply tried and tested measures” mentioned above. He also emphasized that the pandemic is “not even close to being over.”
“It is doubly difficult to simultaneously inform people about the risk and build confidence in public health tools and social measures aimed at protecting health, including masks, social distances and ventilation of the premises,” the head of WHO also said.
The reason for this statement was the increase in cases of the disease with a subspecies of the strain “Omicron” BA.4 and BA.5. Moreover, one of the reasons for their outbreak in WHO has already been called the fact that many countries have canceled almost all restrictive measures – i.e. tourism will eventually return.
