It can take quite a long time to go through security before flying. Experts shared tips with HuffPost about what tourists shouldn't wear if they don't want to get stuck at the airport.
Former TSA officer Jasmine Washington said: “Don't wear overly loose, extremely tight or sequined clothing. It attracts the attention of the equipment and increases the likelihood that you will be searched. This will result in a delay in the queue for you and other people.”
Shoes are also important if the passenger wants to pass the checkpoint without problems. With most airports now asking you to take off your shoes, Jasmine recommends choosing something that is easy to put on and take off, and be sure to wear socks. “My favorite travel shoes are clogs, flats and crocs because they are easy to put on and take off and get through security faster. Wear socks because you will have to take off your shoes, and the socks will allow you to do this in advance, which will create a faster flow in line,” she explained.
There are other reasons why you should wear socks at the airport. Dr. Rami Kalis, professor of pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta, said: “The floor of passenger screening checkpoints is often dirty. And there is no sun. I didn't take samples from these places, but if we did, I'm sure there would be more than a hundred different things found there.”
This statement is supported by a study conducted in Finland. It showed that the security zone is the dirtiest place in the airport. This is due to the fact that almost every passenger must pass through it on the way from the airport entrance to the plane.
Ebony Vincent, a pediatrician, also warned against walking barefoot when traveling. “You can catch a fungus, not to mention the millions of bacteria and herpes that remain on carpets, inside hotel rooms, houses and cars, presenting a danger to other people,” she noted.
