Next season it will be difficult for tourists in Turkey to find a bed to stop for the night, because the country's authorities reported “very good signals” for 2023, associated with a huge tourist flow in the future.
For example, Onur Özer, CEO of Operations of one of the tour operators Meeting Point Turkey, which brings the largest number of European tourists to Turkey, according to Turizmajansi, said that the 2022 season was higher than expected due to the rapid growth of the British market.
“We have had a bad time as a sector due to the pandemic following such an amazing season like 2019. During the pandemic, we as a company dropped from 1 million passengers to 350,000, almost to nothing. Although we doubled our numbers to 650,000 passengers in 2021, this still could not be considered a success. At the end of 2021, the conflict broke out in Ukraine. Suddenly we are pessimists again. But despite this, we started the season well. Mobility began with the opening of the Russian market and the arrival of the British. 2022 was a good season. In particular, July and August were at full capacity. We are 15% behind 2019, but by the end of this year we will reach 2019 levels. We are getting very good signals for 2023. It will be difficult for tourists to find a bed next season,” he said.
Recall that in 2021, foreign tourist flow to Turkey reached a figure of just over 30 million tourist arrivals, which is 42% lower than in 2019 , but twice as much as in covid 2020. According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in the first 6 months of 2022, 16,365,080 travelers visited the country.
Earlier, Turprom wrote that “In Turkey, they calculated and realized that they receive half as much from a tourist as competitors.”
