Russian tourists can lose money due to not traveling abroad and, in general, due to mobilization. This position was officially voiced by the insurers, referring to the Civil Code.
According to the information of the insurance companies, the mobilization call will not be an insured event for travel insurance. “Expenses are not covered upon the occurrence of an event that has signs of an insured event: due to military operations, as well as maneuvers or other military events, civil war, strikes, uprisings, riots, riots, popular unrest; services of the insured person in any armed forces and formations,” they quote.
A similar comment was made by Yulia Alcheeva, Deputy Director of the EUROINS Travel Insurance branch. “The call for mobilization will not be recognized as an insured event,” she said.
The basis, in her words, is as follows: according to Art. 964 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation:
Unless otherwise provided by law or the insurance contract, the insurer is exempt from paying insurance compensation and the sum insured when the insured event occurred as a result of:
- the impact of a nuclear explosion, radiation or radioactive contamination;
- military operations, as well as maneuvers or other military activities;
- civil war, civil unrest of any kind or strikes.
